Sam Minner Sr., 89, of Raleigh, IL, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Lewis & Clark Gardens in St. Charles, MO.
Sam was born May 16, 1928 in Raleigh, IL to Paul and Essie, nee Hale, Minner. Sam married Betty Wolfe on November 22, 1950 in Collinsville, Ill. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2008.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carolyn Whitlock.
Sam is survived by his three children, Sandra (Richard) Riggs of St. Louis, MO, Sam (Joan) Minner Jr. of Las Vegas, NM and Linda (Thomas) Guelker of Collinsville, IL; five grandchildren, Brook Minner, Andrew Guelker, David Guelker, Sam W. Minner and Samantha Riggs; one great-granddaughter, Mabel; and four sisters, Frances Ferrill of Tampa, FL, Virginia Whitlock of Cape Girardeau, MO, Mary Geiger of Sandoval, IL, and Beth Sprehe of Nashville, IL.
Sam served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953, during the Korean War. He was employed with Granite City Steel for 41 years as a steelworker, retiring in May of 1990. He loved to garden and would give away more of his homegrown vegetables than he would keep for himself. Sam will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

VISITATION: A visitation for Sam will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 10:00 A.M.- 11:00 A.M. at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville.
FUNERAL: A funeral will be held immediately following the visitation, at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Lloyd Shaw will officiate. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery in Collinsville.
