Obituary

Sandra Kathleen Mentola (Reid)
April 3, 1953 - December 26, 2025

Sandy died peacefully at her home in Caseyville after a long, lengthy battle with ALS. She was surrounded by her devoted sons.

Born Sandra Kathleen Reid, she grew up in State Park, where she attended and graduated from Collinsville High School in 1971. She married the love of her life, James Edward Mentola II (Eddie), on September 18, 1974. They spent the first four years of their marriage in Germany, as Eddie was enlisted in the United States Army, before returning to the United States and settling in State Park. For more than 40 years, Sandy was an RN for several nursing homes in the Cahokia, Caseyville, and Collinsville areas. Her husband of 27 years died in 2003 of complications due to exposure to Agent Orange while in Vietnam.

Surviving Sandy are her two children: James Edward Mentola III of Caseyville, and Mathew William Mentola of Collinsville.  She had six beautiful grandchildren of whom she enjoyed doting on: Jayden, Alex, Kyla, Aviana, Jaxon & Daxton; a sister, Sharon of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Josephine Woods of Rolla, MO; and a brother-in-law, John Wallace of Falcon, MO; two nieces, several nephews, many cousins, and extended family.

Sandy's cremated remains will be interred with her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Military Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.

The family is being served by HERR Funeral Home, 501 W. Main St., Collinsville, IL 62234.
