Sherwin E. Martin, 86, of Maryville, Ill., formerly of Granite City, Ill., born Nov. 1, 1925, in Pine Bluff, Ark., died at 7:35 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, in Maryville, Ill.
Mr. Martin was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 877 in Granite City, Ill. He had retired as a carpenter with the State of Illinois and was a member of Carpenters Local No. 633. Sherwin was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church of Maryville, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Martin, whom he had married on June 22, 1946; a daughter, Barbara Jean Neal; and his parents, Cecil and Mary, nee Tate, Martin.
Surviving are his daughter, Debra Mendenhall of Granite City, Ill.; five grandchildren, Eric Mendenhall, Mark Mendenhall, Teri Havron, Tony Neal and Tricia Fagan; and five great-grandchildren.
