Obituary

Shirley Jean Gaudette, age 79 of Holiday Shores, Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015. She was born in Lick Creek, West Virginia to Wesley W. and Grace M. Anderson on October 15, 1935.

Shirley attended and graduated high school in Garden City, Michigan. She married her husband Raymond L. Gaudette, May 14, 1964 in Oscoda, Michigan. In 1967 they moved to Pontoon Beach, Illinois.

Shirley worked at the Madison County Housing Authority for many years and retired in 1998. Shirley enjoyed serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother helping young boys develop character, strength and integrity.

Shirley was preceded in death by her son Richard W. Gaudette. She leaves her husband Raymond L. Gaudette, her son David W. Gaudette and daughter Capri T. Strieter and her husband Chris. Shirley also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Shirley is survived by three sisters, Mary Korte, June Leonard and Debra Jaross, and a brother Dean Anderson and sister in law Barbara Anderson, all living in Michigan. Shirley leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other beloved friends and family members both locally and in other states.

Family and great friends were Shirley's love and joy. She had a passion for holiday decorations, every holiday had a special theme and she would spend many hours getting things just right. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, she made sure the decorations were perfect and that the entire family would enjoy outstanding food and happy loving celebration.

Shirley requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to her favorite charity, The Wounded Warrior Project and to Hospice of Southern Illinois at Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville, and will be accepted at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Relais Bonne Eau whose outstanding staff took extraordinary care to make Shirley and her family comfortable during her stay.

Visitation: Viewing will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2015 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, Illinois.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Illinois.
