Shirley May Smith, nee Mattea, 78, of California, born on August 11, 1937 in Marissa Ill.; passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; Frank C. and Elise H. nee Buesking, Mattea.

She is survived by her loving husband, Elmer V. Smith, whom she married on Aug. 23, 1952; her children, Linda S. and Michael Bowler, Colorado Springs, Co. Elmer R. and Terrie Smith, of Redding, Calif., Kenny L. and Tammy Smith, of Cottonwood, Calif., Noel and Bob Knight, of Willow Creek, Calif., Bobby Joe Smith, Reuben J. Smith and Tamarah Smith, all of Glen Carbon Ill. Also surviving are her brothers, Stanley and Frank Mattea, sisters, Ruth Ann Bowler and Joy Ann Verning, 17 grandchildren and 43great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.

Friends may call on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon Ill., from 4:00 until 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:00 am, at Bethel Baptist Church, 10 Bethel Meadows Road, Caseyville Ill., with pastor, Juan Romero officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery Caseyville Ill.
