Shirley Elizabeth Owens, 93, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 in Glen Carbon, Illinois. Shirley was born on October 13, 1929 in East St. Louis, Illinois to parents, Eugene and Helen (Collins) Buechler. She married Lloyd C. Owens on October 13, 1950 and was married for 32 years.

Those left to cherish Shirley's memory include her siblings, Anna Marie Sak and Sister Genarose Buechler, her children, Gail (Russell) Perry, Monica (David) Lundeen, Linda (Dennis) Perry, Helen Owens, Lloyd (Jean) Owens, Rita (Rick) Skau, Thomas (Faye) Owens, and Nancy (David) Steck; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Owens; her son, Ronald (Jennifer) Owens, her parents, and siblings Margaret Eisele, Eugene Buechler, Charles Buechler, and Theresa Goetten.

Shirley attended Holy Angels Grade School and St. Teresa Academy in East St. Louis, Illinois. During her childrens' younger years, she was a very involved and busy mother for all 9 of her kids. She rarely, if ever, missed any of her kids' events. In her later years, she was an avid card player, and loved reading, doing puzzles, watching golf on TV and playing cribbage. She enjoyed traveling on fishing trips, visits to relatives, and annual trips with her sisters, especially their trip to Ireland. Shirley retired as a Personnel Manager from K-Mart in 1996 after 24 years of service. After retiring, she worked as an auditor at TTS Consulting for 18 years.

She was a wonderful, caring mother who never spoke ill of anyone. She was a great listener and made friends easily. She was also an excellent seamstress and made many articles of clothing for her children. She truly lived a great life. She will be sorely missed by all her family and her many friends.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive in Glen Carbon, Illinois on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Mass will be held at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, 155 N.Main Street in Glen Carbon, Illinois on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 10:00am, followed by a private burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, Illinois or Vitas Hospice.
