Susan Kathryn Harris, a devoted nurse whose compassionate care touched countless lives across decades, passed away on March 21, 2026. Born on March 29, 1942, Susan's life was marked by dedication to her profession and a deep love for her family and the simple joys of walking and togetherness.
Her remarkable career spanned an extraordinary 35 years—a testament not only to an extraordinary lifespan but to her unwavering commitment to nursing. She contributed her skills and compassion at St John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, and Providence Hospital in Portland, Oregon, leaving behind a legacy of empathy and professionalism that colleagues and patients alike admired.
Susan is survived by her loving daughter, Julie Rentz, and her son, Bryon Rentz, who carry forward her warmth and spirit. She is also remembered by her sister Carol Shaw and her significant other, John Tate, along with several nieces and nephews who cherished her presence in their lives. Their memories of Susan’s kindness and the moments shared will sustain her influence and love.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Roscoe Dinwiddie and Mercedes Dinwiddie (née Holland), as well as her siblings Sharon “Patty” Rogers, Joyce Thomas, and Charles R. Dinwiddie, who now rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
A Celebration of Life to honor Susan will be held on April 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Lukes United Methodist Church, located at 6325 W Main St, Maryville, Illinois. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and all those touched by Susan’s life to come together to share memories, pay respects, and celebrate the extraordinary life she led.
Susan Kathryn Harris’s legacy is one of commitment to healing and devotion to family, and her memory will remain warmly cherished by all who knew her.
