Thomas H. Gehrs, affectionately known as "Tom," passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Friday, April 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of all seven of his children.

Born on January 25, 1935, in Breese, Illinois, Tom was one of eight children born to Nicholas and Veronica (Erlinger) Gehrs. He married the love of his life, Janice (Berry) Gehrs, on August 23, 1954, in Carlyle, Illinois. Together, they shared 46 wonderful years of marriage until Janice's passing in 2000.

Tom dedicated his life to providing for his family. He worked as a skilled meat cutter and served at one point as the Business Agent for the Local 537 Meat Cutters Union. A hardworking man, Tom often held multiple jobs to ensure his family was cared for.

Following retirement, Tom moved to Lake Egypt where he embraced his love of the outdoors. He spent his days fishing, hunting, enjoying the company of good friends, and making cherished memories with his family. His time at the lake brought him great joy and left a lasting legacy of laughter, love, and togetherness.

Tom is survived by his loving children: Teresa (Brian) Keck, Jane Ellinger, Michael (Pam) Gehrs, Jeff Gehrs, David (Katie Calhoun) Gehrs, Matthew (Jill) Gehrs, and Todd (Penny) Gehrs. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Danielle May, Nicole Wilkinson, Nate May, Lauren Kessinger, Lori Roever, Aaron Ellinger, Chris Ellinger, Haley Hansen, Chad Gehrs, Chase Gehrs, Hunter Gehrs, Justin Gehrs, Ryan Gehrs, Peyton Schultz, Drake Gehrs, Kendall Gehrs, and Reece Gehrs; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim and Bill Gehrs. He will also be missed by many extended family members and dear friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janice, four brothers, and one sister.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Dr., Glen Carbon, Illinois. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates.

Tom's legacy of strength, love, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
