Thomas "Tom" Jay Mauretta, 80, passed away November 28, 2025 in Greenville, North Carolina. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 2, 1945. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Nona Hughes Mauretta and Peter Mauretta and his brother Jeff.

Tom loved sports. Even after leaving Pittsburgh he forever remained a passionate fan of many local Pittsburgh sports teams he grew up watching and was always very proud of his birthplace. He enjoyed playing golf and watching the major golf tournaments. Nothing was more important to him than spending time with his friends and family which is why he loved holidays so much and never forgot a birthday.
Tom served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University where he studied Electrical Engineering. While at Carnegie Mellon, Tom was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He began his career as an engineer at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh and eventually worked for Ebasco and Simons Eastern Engineering firms in Atlanta. He ended his work career at the USPS in St. Louis. He worked hard all his life and only retired months before his death when he became physically unable to continue.
Tom loved being a member of the Ainad Shriners of Southern Illinois. He was so proud to become a life member. Tom was a past president of the local Shriners Club in Collinsville. Helping children through the Shriners Club activities provided him great satisfaction.
Tom is survived by his children Peter and Devon Mauretta, his best friend and partner Nita Frizzelle, and his beloved cousin Sharon Finley. He will be sorely missed and always remembered by those whose lives he touched including his friends Milton Crowder and Richard Spratley.
In lieu of flowers, donate to an organization whose goal is rescuing animals.
