Obituary

TROY, IL- Thomas J. Major, 63, and Deborah S. Major, 64, of Troy IL, passed away at their home on Monday, April 8, 2019.

Tom was born May 6, 1955 in Jerseyville, IL to Amos "Bing" and Mary (Kallal) Major. They preceded him in death along with his brother, Greg Major.

He is survived by his siblings, Beverly Major of Honolulu, HI, Lawrence Major (wife, Cindy) of Miami, FL and Joan Major (husband, Paul Toivonen) of Wichita, KS.

Before his retirement, Tom worked in the meat department at Schnucks in Collinsville for many years. He was an avid San Francisco Giants baseball fan, his favorite player was Willie Mays, with whom he shared a birthday. In his younger years, he loved to play both tennis and golf.

Deb was born May 19, 1954 in East St. Louis, IL to Gilbert and Lucille (Mann) Happel. They preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sister, Judy Bardmass (late husband, Doug Bardmass) of Collinsville, IL.

Deb worked as a dental assistant at SIUE Dental Implant Clinic in East St. Louis, IL, before her retirement. When Deb was younger she loved horseback riding and carried her love for horses with her throughout her life. She also loved cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and tried to watch every game.

Together, the couple is survived by their two daughters, Amber Major of Troy, IL and Lenise Nichols (husband, Nathan) of Edwardsville, IL; and two grandchildren, Evelyn and Nathan Maxwell.

The couple cherished every moment they shared with their daughters and their precious grandchildren. Their love and devotion to their family will never be forgotten.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family and will be put towards an education fund for her grandchildren. Additional condolences may be sent to the family through this online guestbook.

VISITATION: A memorial visitation for Tom and Deb will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 5:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M. at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, IL.

SERVICE: A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded for the couple.
