Obituary

Timothy Porter, 77, of Collinsville, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2026.

He was born in East St. Louis, IL, on May 6th, 1949, to Roland and Catherine Porter. He was a proud graduate of Collinsville High School and a retiree from the Alton Southern Railroad. His hobbies included anything outdoors, such as fishing, hunting, and going to the gun range; as well as anything that kept him active. In his younger years, he was well known for arm wrestling and weightlifting. He loved spending time with his family - his biggest passion in life was his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. Timothy was a caring and loving man. His sense of humor was known to be kind of goofy, but he had the most contagious laugh. Those who knew him will miss him dearly.

Preceding Timothy in death are his parents, Roland and Catherine Porter; brothers, William and R. Terry Porter; daughter, Crystal Gayle Porter; as well as numerous in-laws.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Melba Porter nee Gibson; daughters, Sherry White, Pamela Helms, and Jaime Painter; grandchildren, Kayla (Caleb) Tabor, Gage (Anara) Painter, Timothy White, Alyssa (Matt) McCamish, Drake (Megan) Helms, and Miranda Helms; great grandchildren, Sawyer Painter, Gemma Tabor, Lyla and Odin McCamish; sister, Trudy Porter; sisters-in-law, Naomi Emrich, Kathy Gibson, and Carol Porter; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A public visitation will be held from the chapel of Herr Funeral Home on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10th, 2026, at 11:00 AM following a public visitation from 9:00 AM till the time of service. A procession will follow the service to Augusta Cemetery in St. Jacob, IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Timothy's honor to the St. Jude Children's Research Center.

The family is being served by Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. Main Street, Collinsville, IL, 62234.
