GLEN CARBON, IL- Valerie Jo King, 59, of Glen Carbon, IL, formerly of Freeburg, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Valerie was born on February 21, 1959 in Belleville, IL to Henry J. "Hank" and Violet G. "Vi" Schneider. They survive and reside in Collinsville, IL.

She married Jay N. King on July 21, 2007 at Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Granite City, IL. He survives and resides in Glen Carbon, IL.

Also surviving are her children, John Soos (wife, Shannon) of Edwardsville, IL and Katie Soos of Glen Carbon, IL; her children's father, Michael Soos of Highland, IL; brother, Perry L. (wife, Sally) Schneider of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Michelle Schneider of Collinsville, IL; nieces and nephews: Rose Schneider, Morgan Schneider, Michael Schneider, Karl Schneider and Heike Schneider; step-daughter, Casie (husband, Lee) Fuqua of Highland, IL; step-son, Christopher King of Glen Carbon, IL; and step-grandchildren, Peyton Fuqua and Zachary Linhart.

Valerie was preceded in death by her brother, David H. Schneider.

She worked as a quality control auditor for Mallinckrodt, a pharmaceutical company for 36 years, before her retirement in December of 2016.

Valerie loved the outdoors, whether she was working in her plants and flowers, or relaxing on the beach, she loved the sunshine. She was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. She loved all people and her family dearly. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Molly. Valerie will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Memorial donations may be made to Lustgarten (a foundation for pancreatic cancer research), Wounded Warrior Project, or The Humane Society of the United States.

VISITATION: A visitation for Valerie will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 4:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, IL 62234.

FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville, IL, where Valerie was an active member. Interment will be at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Collinsville, IL.
