Vera A. Thompson, 105, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away with her family by her
side on Friday, April 16, 2021.
Vera was born February 5, 1916, to Patsey and Eleanora (Schuck) Comer at their home in
Collinsville, Illinois.
In her younger days, Vera worked for Newberry's Dime Store as a clerk. She was an
avid reader, always had a book in her hands and read daily. She had a love for children
and her family. In her later years, she became very creative and artsy, she painted and
wrote wonderful children stories and poems.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merlin Thompson; brother, Orville
Comer; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Grodzicki; and son-in-law, Joseph Grodzicki.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Grodzicki of Collinsville, Illinois; grandson,
Dennis (Chloie)
Grodzicki of North Ridgeville, Ohio; granddaughter, Shawn (Randy) Heinlein of
Millstadt, Illinois; great-grandchildren: Robert (Samantha) Grodzicki, Anna (Chris)
Long, and Cory Heinlein; great-great grandchildren: Harper Grodzicki, Theodore
"Teddy" Grodzicki, Cooper Long, Merik Long, Jake Long, and C.J Long; as well as
many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
at Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. Main, Collinsville, Illinois. A funeral mass will be held on
Friday, April 23, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 207 Vandalia
Street, Collinsville, Illinois, with Fr. John Beveridge officiating.
