Virgil Jerome Keeton, Sr., 95, earned his angel wings on Saturday, March 26th in Granite City, IL.

Virgil was born on June 4, 1920 in Gorham, IL to Chester and Cora (nee Asbury) Keeton. Virgil served 4 years in the U.S. Army during WWII.

After discharge from the Army, Virgil married Loretta (nee Dann) and raised their 5 children in Granite City, IL.

Virgil was an avid potter, enjoyed gardening, sharing his life stories, was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan and more than anything, Virgil loved his family.

Virgil and his wife retired in Livingston, IL to live closer to his family. After the death of his wife Loretta in 1995, he would spend an additional 14 years with his son in Livingston.

Later Virgil would spend 3 years in Evergreen in Litchfield, IL before moving back to Granite City.

Virgil is survived by his five children: Carol (her companion, Robert Ostyn) Dworsack of Mt. Olive, IL, David (Maral) of Grover, MO, Rita Barnett of Granite City, IL, Virgil Jr. (Pamala) of Fordland, MO and Terry (Cindi) of Litchfield, IL. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter in infancy, five brothers and six sisters.

He was sadly preceded in death by his oldest granddaughter, Loretta (Dworsack) Jackson of Litchfield and his youngest granddaughter, Hannah Grace Keeton of Livingston. Additionally, he was preceded in death by two sons- in- law, Bruce Dworsack, Sr. of Mt. Olive and Phil Barnett of Granite City.

Memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon, IL and a committal service will follow with military honors.
