W. Ruth Whaley, 95, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2020, in Mt. Vernon, IL.

Ruth was born on December 12, 1924, in Farmersville, TX. From there she moved to Collinsville, IL, then to Mt. Vernon, IL, and was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Odis Whaley, her son, Robert Whelan, her parents, William Vel Smith and Ruthalee Hobbs, and her siblings, Anna Lou Henry, Hubert Smith, and Alvin Smith.

Ruth is survived by her children, Richard Odis (Judy) Whaley, Randy William (Sharon) Whaley, her grandchildren, Daniel, Victoria, and Ethan Whaley, Megan Feezor, her step-grandchildren, Barney and Jim Bates, Cyndi Horton, and several nieces, nephews, and step-great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked memorial donations be made out to the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon, IL, located at 1133 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IL, 62864.
