Walter Fred "Walt" Richter Sr., 91, of Caseyville, Ill., born Jan. 15, 1924, in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Richter retired from Pfizer as a supervisor after 43 years of service. He joined the Army in 1943. He finished his military service as a staff sergeant platoon sergeant and served overseas during World War II. He received the American Theater Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
Walt was a member of the Moose Lodge 4 in Caseyville for 48 years. He enjoyed playing cards, games, camping and fishing as he would say going out to eat fish on Friday nights.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ethel, nee Mason, Richter; two brothers, Orville and Ray; and a sister, Ethel May.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon, nee Leicht, Richter whom he married on Oct. 29, 1988; a son, Walter Richter, Jr.; two stepsons and their wives, William (Mari Jo) Clark and Robert (Laura) Clark; two step grandsons, Aaron Clark and William Clark, Jr.; two step-nephews, Shawn Routt and his wife Misty and Anthony Routt; two granddaughters, Laura Richter and Lisa Richter; a great-niece who was the apple of his eye, Alexis Nicole Routt who went camping with Walt and Sharon since she was five days old.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House or Unity Hospice.
Visitation: A celebration of his life will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the Moose Lodge 4, 8550 Bunkum Rd., Caseyville, Ill. Come share a story about Walt and enjoy some fellowship with the family.
Funeral: A private family internment will be held at a later date.
