Wanda Fern Phelps, nee Barger, 92, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Collinsvile, Ill., born May 12, 1921, in Arkansas passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at her residence.
Wanda attended Mckendree College and SIU-C and later taught school in Hurst, Ill., Granite City and Maryville, Ill., and then from 1971 to 1985 taught first grade at the Lincoln School in Collinsville. Wanda was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Maryville, Ill. She loved to garden and enjoyed swimming.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Norvel Phelps, whom she married on April 7, 1955, and who died Dec. 9, 2004; her daughter, Gayle, who died of leukemia at the age of 15 in 1973; and her parents, Emmit and Ivy, nee Sandefur, Barger.
Surviving are her daughter, Robin (Philip) Busarow of Tucson, Ariz.; her brother, Buck (Betty) Barger of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Maryville, Ill., with Pastor Will Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
