Wayne L. King, Sr., age 75 of Glen Carbon, IL, died at 1:05 a.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was born Thursday, September 23, 1937, the son of Wheeler and Dolly (Earney) King. He married Gladys Strehle on May 11, 1957. She survives.
Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Wayne worked for American Standard, then became the International Vice President of Glass Molders & Pottery Union. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in East Liverpool, OH, and the Granite City Elks Lodge. He and Gladys, his wife of 55 years, loved to travel, enjoying such destinations as Australia, Alaska and Hawaii.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cindy L. (Edward) Anderson, of Glen Carbon; a son, Wayne L. (Janine) King, Jr., of Joliet; 8 grandchildren: Stacey, Kelsey, Jeremey, Sean, Serena, Andrew, Jackson and Malinda; 7 great-grandchildren; and several very close longtime friends.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimers Research in care of Sunset Hill Funeral Home.
