William Stephen
Amos
April 11, 1947 – April 5, 2024
William Stephen (Steve) Amos, 76, of Caseyville, Illinois passed away on April 5, 2024, joining
his parents William F. Amos and Ruby (Tepee) Amos.
Steve was born in Oakland City, Indiana and was the first born of 3 boys. He served 16 years in
the United States Air Force (1965-1981) reaching the rank of Technical Sergeant. He served in
England and Japan, as well as the United States where he met his wife Ellen in 1976. After
being stationed at Scott Air Force Base in 1980, Steve and Ellen decided to stay near family in
Caseyville where they lived for 43 years and were members of Caseyville United Methodist
Church.
In 1984 Steve earned his graduate degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in
Geology. Steve was very active in local politics as a precinct committeeman and served as a
St. Clair County Republican Chairman. His many interests included building, remodeling, and
woodworking. He was also an avid reader who wore out not 1, but 2 copies of

.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years Ellen (Vitense) Amos; daughter Zoe-Renee (Cameron)
Cowan; daughter Pamela (Chris) Schneider; and son Bill Amos. Grandchildren include Corbin
(Ashlyn) Cowan; Kennedi Cowan; Creed Cowan; Troy Schneider; Reed Schneider; and Claire
Schneider. Great Grandchildren are Calvary Cowan, Crusade Cowan, Caius Cowan, and Whitt
Martin. Steve was also survived by brothers Jim (Janine) Amos and Carl (Felicia) Amos; and by
many loved nieces and nephews.
