Obituary

William "Bill" Edward Scaggs, 64, of Collinsville, IL, passed peacefully Thursday, March 27, 2014, at his residence with his family by his side.

Bill was born to the late Elmer and Edith (Schroeppel) Scaggs on July 27, 1949, in East St. Louis, IL. He graduated from Collinsville High School in 1967. He married Debra "Debbie" Stennett, his high school sweetheart, and enjoyed 44 years of wedded bliss. Bill and Debbie have 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren.

Bill was a kind and generous man who was always willing to help someone in need. He had a huge heart that just couldn''t keep up with all the love he had to give. In addition to being a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, Bill enjoyed many hobbies such as; fishing, hunting, gardening, woodworking and he even tried his hand at winemaking. He was also a life-long member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Bill was a member of the Graphic Communications International Union and worked primarily as a pressman in the printing industry. Throughout his career he was employed at such businesses as the Collinsville Herald, the Granite City Press Record, Buxton-Skinner and Fleming Printing Company before retiring in 2006.

Surviving Bill, are his wife, Debbie (Stennett) Scaggs, two daughters, Amanda (Patrick) Madigan, Melanie (Patrick) Scott, four grandchildren, Julia Scott, Ryan Scott, Brooks Madigan and Keegan Madigan. Bill is also survived by his brother, Michael (Bonnie) Scaggs of Troy, IL, and his sister, Alice (Danny) Huff of Collinsville, IL, along with many other loving relatives.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, the American Diabetes Association or Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, IL.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2014 between 4 PM and 8 PM at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, IL.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 31 at 11 AM at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, IL. Burial will be immediately after at Lakeview Cemetery in Fairview Heights, IL.
