William Eugene Ellis, 81, of Collinsville, IL passed on Thursday June 16, 2022. At Memorial Hospital- Belleville.

He was the son of Carl Ellis and Sylvia (Tripp) Jones and was born September 19, 1940 in Murphysboro,IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Sondra Ellis.

He was a maintenance welder at Granite City Steel for 40 plus years. He was a member of the Collinsville unit 10 school Board for 22 years. He was also a member of the State Park Fire Department for 33 years. He served 23 years as Chief and manager of Madison County Fireman's Bingo Hall for 10 plus years . His hobbies included community service, woodworking, and autobody.

Surviving his passing are his children Laura Marchetti (Tony), Kevin Taylor (Donna), Keith Ellis (Stacey). Grandchildren Michelle (Joe) Taraboi, Kristen (Terry) Kreher, Bryan (Beth) Taylor, and Great Grandchildren Ellis, Amelia, Jonathon, Taylor, Jordan, Sierrah, Kailee; sister; Lila (Harry) Switzer, brother; Ronald (Pat) Ellis, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 20, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Herr Funeral Home 501 West Main Street, Collinsville, IL. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 starting at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Habermehl officiating. Interment will follow the service at Lake View Memorial Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL.
