William "Bill" Dirden, 87, passed away on January 13, 2026, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, Illinois.
Bill was born on October 2, 1938 in East St. Louis. He proudly served his country and his community as a member of the United States Air Force, The US Marshall Service, and as a police officer with the Collinsville Police Department.
Throughout his life, Bill exemplified strength, perseverance, fairness and integrity. His legacy lives on through his family and those whose lives he touched through his years of service.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Elsie (Ressman) Dirden, his brother Joseph Dirden, and his beloved wife of over 50 years, Dixie (Marsh) Dirden.
He will be remembered for his compassion, dedication, selflessness, and humor by his children: Michael, Dawn, Kimberly, Amber, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and his loyal dog Chewy.
Visitation with Honor Guard and Final Watch will be held on January 29, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, IL.
Funeral services being held on January 30, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, IL.
Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, IL.
The family is being served by HERR Funeral Home, 501 West Main Street, Collinsville, Illinois 62234.
