William Durrell Sykes Sr., 80 of Benld, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL.

He was son of the late Pink Blanton and Eva Dora (Cottrell) Sykes, and born on August 22, 1941 in Granite City, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Joyce Sykes, his children David, Melissa and Jesse. Also preceded in death by; Oleta, Rebecca, Betty, Lela, Rosella, Donald and Phyllis.

He is a retired corrugated operator.

He is survived by his sons; William (Darla) D. Sykes Jr., Roger D. Sykes, Jason L. (Susan) Sykes and Phillip T. Sykes, proud grandfather to; Eric, Bridget, Matthews, Austin and Kaylee,  proud great-grandfather to Noah, Haven and Eli; brother Pete Sykes and sisters; Gloria Tallor and Joyce Dix.

Visitation will be on Monday May 16, 2022, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill Funeral Home 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, IL.  Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Minister Brent Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow the service at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
