Obituary

Tim Tighe, 71, of Hamel, IL, formerly of St. Louis, MO, passed away at home on April 20, 2018, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born October 23, 1946, Tim was a retired healthcare business executive and entrepreneur whose accomplishments included developing several successful enterprises. After retirement, Tim continued to pursue business opportunities, most recently with the Harvester License Office in St. Charles, MO, where he was instrumental in its growth into the largest license office in the state.

A graduate of SIU Edwardsville, Tim played soccer for the Cougars. He made lifelong friends on the team, and he remained an avid supporter of SIUE athletics. He was the proud founder and sponsor of the Jack Blake Award, presented annually to a student-athlete who excels in soccer and exhibits the character, talent, and leadership of the late Jack Blake, Tim's former co-captain.

Tim was an active leader in the community. He was former president and board member of the annual Blessing of the Fleet on the Mississippi (Alton Pool) and a past commodore of the Con Trios and Duck Club yacht clubs.  He enjoyed spending time on the river in his beloved boat "Patience" with his late wife Lynn and cherished friends.

In addition to boating, Tim had many hobbies, including fast cars and cross-country road trips. Tim's success in life and business can be attributed to his genuine kindness, optimism, and compassion. He was a charismatic leader and gifted speaker. Tim loved life and enjoyed time with family and dear friends . He was a devoted son, brother, husband, and father, and his young grandchildren will remember him as the best "Papa" ever, provider of wise counsel, buried treasure, candy when their parents weren't looking, laughter, and love.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn (nee Frees); daughter Tiffany Marsh; and parents, Elizabeth and William Tighe.  He is survived by his daughter Valerie Westcott and her husband, Dusan Djordjevich; grandchildren, Mila and Luka; son-in-law Kyle Marsh; brother, James Tighe; sisters, Elizabeth Wiegleb, Eileen Tighe, and Margaret Tighe; and nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
